Classical & Modern Ballet

By Breanna Geswein & Olivia Eads

Classical and modern ballet are two different styles of ballet. There are many similarities between classical and modern ballet as well as some differences. To distinguish between the two one should look at the clothing worn, the music, the styles displayed, and also the movements performed by these performers.
In beginning, the basic overall positions are the same. The form between classical ballet done many years ago has continued throughout the centuries and is still performed the same way today. Another similarity includes the footwear. The performers in the past have worn ballet pointe  shoes and a lot of performers in today's society still wear pointe shoes to allow them to dance on the tip of their toes. Modern ballet a lot of the times is done barefoot, but these shoes have not changed.
Overall, the elegance and beauty of the dance has not changed. Ballet will continue to draw large audiences and impress the people who come to watch.
